Last Sunday was a great example of that . We had 2 guests on, One from LA, and the other from Canada. That's right, we have them both on at the same time. Victoria May from LA is a graphic artists and friends with Julie Gribble (LA , now Alanta Georgia singer songwriter) She's also friends with David Blair(Singer songwriter) He's from Canada.

We we started the show (Ron Nocco and I) I always wanted to grow it and have to listened to by people all over the world. Well. Here we are in 2008 and the show is still on the air, and acatually, people anywhere in the world can download the show and listen to it.

Also, it was brought to my attention from my assistant Andrew Wolfe, that he has been helping out on the show for 3 years today. Wow! First, I can't believe that it's been that long and oh how time goes by. Thank you Andrew, you've been a great help... and the artist really like you.

There's a lot going on at The Acoustic Hour... If you are a a loyal listener, then you know it to be true. If you are just finding us out for the first time, thanks for stopping by. I'm working on the current roster, and it's pretty impressive. Keep checking back on the acoustic hour site for details. For now, thanks for your listening ears.

By the way.. David Blair will be Live in Studio on March 23rd. Angelo Frazier was the guest host on the Acoustic Hour Radio Show. I'm sure for most listeners listening in, it may have been a bit strange. In our case, being Idential twins, we happen to sound alike on the phone. Since he was calling in from Bakersfield California, I thouhgtit best that one my trusted air-announcers would interview him. Randall Thorn accepted the challenge and interviewed my brother.

I thought that the show went over very well. Once you got past the " Ididn't know he had a Twin" or " He sounds just like him" or " It was Anthony playing a trick" etc..the show was interesting, entertaining and uplifting. If you missed the show, you can download the entire hour at acoustichour.com

It was really cool having my brother on... I plan on having him on again. This time, I will
do the interview. (maybe) Angelo is Chapin at the Bakersfield Rescue Mission in California.
you can see him no video in the mission video. He's a good guy doing great work!

Well, here are the 5 top questions people always ask about twins
1. Can you read each other's minds?
Answer: He says yes
2. Can you feel each other pain?
Answer: Yes, only if we are in the same room
3. Are Twins really 2 different people?
Answer: one is the original and the other is a copy
4. Do you have the same DNA?
Answer: What's good for one is good for the other.
5. Is it different having a twin than have a brother/sister?
Anwer: Duh!

Loyal and new Listeners

Morning to : Sandy and the kids, Linda, Bob, Karen, The Johnson's, Jack, Ben and Peg, Dorothy, Mark and Susan, Dana and Mrs. Dana, Larry and Paula, Paul, Sam, Steve, Randall, Jessie, Laura, Robert, Phil, Ian, David, Alex, The Captain, Joe and family, Barry and family, Rodney,
The lady in the grocery store, Folks at the picnic, and so on ..

I know it's been a while since my last blog. But I haven't forgotten about it, I hope you all haven't stopped checking. Lot of music stuff to talk about. The one thing that keeps happening, is every so often someone, (usually someone I don' know) says to me, I usually listen to the show. I generally ask them their name in hopes that I can remember to write it down and say good morning to them on the next show. Sometimes I get it right and other times, I don't.

I'm so appreciative of folks taking the time to let me know that they listen to the show. I know that the artists do appreciate it. I know that I've said this somewhere before.. That when we are on air, all we see is what's in front of us. We can't see the audience, the folks listening at home, in their cars, outside, on their boats or where ever. Even when they download the audio version of the show later that day, we are detached from this experience. I know that I enjoyed having a front row seat to some of the most incredible, fun and talented people in this region. I'm not kidding folks. The musicians and artists do this because they have a true love for the craft. To help celebrate this milestone, we are producing a new song called "Need to Breathe" written by Anthony Frazier. This song is being professionally recorded by Sean Moran of Mostuda Productions.

We would like to invite anyone who would want to help with backing vocals to take part in this historic recording session. We are primarily looking for women and children, and men are invited as well.

The “LIVE” background recording is set for July 22, 2007 @ 7:00pm at the Church of the Brethren hall on route 286, directly across from the Rustic Lodge. folks. My video Waterman has been accepted into the 2007 Johnstown Film Festival on July 12th @ 8:00 for it's first official screening.

The video is Tim Dabbs's official First work from his brand new CD Safely Home.
It is truly and honor to get the video in the festival and I'm glad that folks will not see it. Tim is an outstanding Singer/song writer and it would be easy to call hisVideo a just a music video.

It's far from that.. I had to listen to the song 20 times to catch all the historic information Tim packed in the song. His songwriting and phrasing is so subtle that you'll miss the good stuff.

The video allows for the listener to also see story unfold. You'll be taken along for a ride on the historic ship. How cool is that.

I hope the Johnstown Film Festival audience enjoys Waterman. It's true to Tim's legacy.. in that... he's best when he tells stories.

For more information go to: http://www.jaha.org/FilmFestival/Thursday.html

Fathers and Sons

The formal day to pay tribute to Fathers is coming this weekend. As it does every year. As it should. Fathers play a key role in familes and in the development of children. Fathers may not always be the biological parnets, nor even related. But their impact and position no do shape the lives of kids especially boys.

http://anthony-kaleb.blogspot.com/

Kevin and Kaleb are an example of that. I Met Kevin a few years ago and was impressed immediately with his heart. He has a lovely family with 2 wonderful kids. No they aren't the perfect family but who has one of those? The McCullough's are members of the Nazarene Church in Homer City. They make me feel at home and anyone who's knows them, will tell you that they live what they believe.

I've had the honor of meeting a host of cool dads out there... Many of them artists and musicians ... way to many to name. But they all have in common 3 things.

Love of and for Family, Humility, and Honesty... what great things to pass on to your kids.

Happy Father's day dads... Whether your kids are with you, whole or broken, you still deserve the tribute. Recently we were shocked by the tragedy at Virigna Tech as well as the countless stories of Universities dealing with sexual assaults and Alcohol related issues. Every time an athlete, student or teacher gets involved in bad or criminal behavior, there follows a series of school examination/documentaries. Kitty Henry shared this incredible talent with me.

On Sunday, Mother's Day. we set it up so that Heidi would call into the radio show and say a few words and intro her new Mother's Day song. Heidi's Mother, Family and Friends were all listening when the song was aired for the first time on The Acoustic Hour Radio. You can hear the song and the entire show by downloading it at www.acoustichour.com

The song went over well. Everyone enjoyed the song and, I was told by Heidi's Dad after the show that Mom was in tears.. The Acoustic Hour Radio Show was honored to be part of this Mother's Day Gift. ...May we add, to all the Mothers, GrandMothers, Guardians ect... this song is for you as well.

In the true spirit of Love, Appreciation, Respect, and Humility.. we as children can never really give back all that is giving to us.. but we can for a moment in time, stop and say .. Thank you!
Keep writing those songs Heidi.

I found You Chuck Maiden LA

If I ask 10 people on the street, who Chuck Maiden is, my guess is that no one would get it right. That’s because, most times when you ask people on the street that type of question, it's either because the person did something really big, or was just added to the list of stupid humans.

Well, if you are listener to the acoustic hour radio show, you'd know who Chuck Maiden was. He is an outstanding singer songwriter from LA. We have featured him on our show several times and he has written, what I think is, close to the "perfect song." You don't believe me? Go to his website and listen to the song titled “I found you” Go to http://www.chuckmaiden.com/ It plays right on his site and you'll see what all the fuss is about. He also has a Myspace site. myspace.com/chuckmaiden.

You can go to www.acoustichour.com and download the last show he did on our air. Either way, check him out.

The other thing that makes my professional relationship with Chuck so cool is that he has invited several outstanding LA artists and musicians to be on the Acoustic Hour Radio show. Julie Gribble, Wit's End, Bill Reveles and Nathaniel Street-west. Our listeners in this region have had the opportunity to hear music that they most likely would have never been exposed to, had it not been for Chuck Maiden.

Chuck's home is more than 2211 miles from Indiana PA. They are 3 hours behind us in time. But he jumps at the chance to share his talents on our air. He is also and professional Artists with credits on the TV program "King of the Hill" Yep, he's big time and still takes the time for the little people :)

During his last visit to the Acoustic Hour, he spoke of his daughters 3(yrs) birthday party. He's a proud dad and is living the dream with his family and career. Chuck is a keeper and it's always a joy to have him on our air. He will be back on the show mid-summer with more new music and great stories.

I just recieved an email from him about a possible new guest for the show. Luis Oliart is his name and he also has a place on myspace.

On what station can you get a sampling of local and regional artists and musicians on both coasts? The Acoustic Hour is a good start. Tune in Sunday Mornings 9:00am on AM1160WCCS
It's the acoustic hour radio show. If you can't get the station check the website for the show downloads.

Grit Rally 2007 St. Thomas More IUP – my thoughts

I guess for most people, they didn't even know that this event was even held this weekend. For those who don't know, JD Varner hosts this Men's fellowship event every year. I think this is either the 4th or 5th year. The event has taken place in various churches around Indiana County. It’s usually held on the first Saturday in May.

I've been a part of it for several years. JD asked that I lead worship for the event and I of course accepted.

As anyone knows, planning for events like this takes a great deal of time, teamwork, prayer, money and talent. I don't know much it actually cost to put on an event like this, but I know it does cost more than average. The event usually features Men of the area speaking and providing their testimonies about their faith. There is usually on Keynote speaker. Lou Teeper, Steve Wolfe and Jeff Smith spoke this year. They all gave excellent and heartfelt presentations.
Last year Gold Star Pastor James McCaulley spoke. He is the Pastor who lost his some in war last year. He name was Sergeant Randy McCaulley.

Over the years, young boys, teens, young adults, older adults and seniors have taken the time to share and spend that Saturday morning at the rally. By the way Girt is taken from the word Integrity. People always ask about that.

Anyways, one concern has always been the actual number of people in attendance. This year’s attendance was low. I did find that strange, because many know about the Grit Rally and are very supportive of having it. I know that weekends have become almost added work days for families. Also, lots of other events, benefits do happen to fall on the same days. This years events was matched with, Relay for Life and several IUP events.

This year’s event was special. Our Worship team consisted on several teenagers. Alex Pruszenski, 17 Nick Hudak, 13, Kaleb 15 and Lance Wolfe 13. Alex added the guitar, Nick sang a solo tune and backup vocals, Kaleb played the bass, and Lance played the saxophone.

When I contacted them about helping with worship they all said yes! They didn't hesitate, or ask questions. They all wanted to be a part of the event. Kaleb and Alex were in it last year and knew what to expect. Nick and Lance were new to performing at the event.

Unfortunately Alex wasn't able to stay to whole event. But he did make the effort and I was glad to see him there. He played for a short time but had to leave. I thank him for his desire and willingness to want to be there in the first place. He is a very talented singer songwriter and guitarist. You will be hearing more about him.

Kaleb who, 2 years ago, didn't play any instruments, played bass for the worship groups. Also the week before that Kaleb also played bass for the Men’s Retreat at Camp Mantowagon in Saxton PA. Kaleb’s dad said after the event “He (Kaleb) continues to amaze me!”. I agree with him 100%. He gets better and better every time he picks up the guitar, and you can see the confidence in his eyes. Last year he played on a few songs, this year, He was the lead bass player. One more thing.. I was told by his proud father that Kaleb has also played bass for the group Faithful Friends out of Homer City. You've never heard of the Faith Friends Quartet? Visit faithfulfriendsquartet.com When I first hear them, I tought that they were a singing group visiting from Nashville.

Nick had a lot of fun being in the worship group. He is 13 and his voice is still changing. When he gets excited, his voices really changes. The funny thing was, Nick wanted to sing "Long black train" It's a cool county song, but it's sung very low. So Nick has to really work to get his pitch right in order to sing the song. He practiced and practiced and when time came to sing the song, he nailed it. Everyone there was impressed. Dr. Tony Atwater was so impressed that he spent time with Nick and his father after the event. Way to go Nick.

Lance probably had one of the most difficult roles in the worship group. He has to learn a song he'd never heard of and had to learn it by ear. Now for us ear music learners, that's not hard at all. But Lance is classically trained and reads music. He's a real pro at it. Then after Lance transposed and learned the song, he had to play it with us. So basically we could only practice the song after Lance had figured it out. Talk about cutting it close. Anways, Lance came through with flying colors. He learned the song and had help with transposing it in his key. How cool was that? Then came the practice time with us seasoned musicians, It was really funny... we struggled and finally caught up to where Lance was at. Now you might ask, why choose a a song like that and go through all this?

Well, here's the answer. Below is the song and the words to it. Read it. Then you'll see why the song was chosen.

Carry You
Amy Grant

Lay down your burden
I will carry you
I will carry you my child, my child
Lay down your burden
I will carry you
I will carry you my child, my child

Cause I can walk on water
Calm a restless sea
I’ve done a thousand things you’ve never done
And I’m really watching
While you struggle on your own
Call my name, I’ll come

chorus

I give vision to the blind
I can raise the dead
I’ve seen the darker side of hell
And I’ve returned
I’ve seen those sleepless nights
And count every tear you cry
Some lessons hurt to learn

Chorus

It's a beautiful song and I wanted Lance to match his talents with it. He did an incredible job!

The worship music selected was inspired from my friends at the Nazarene church, Dave, Kevin and Rob. They had invited me a Chris Tomlin concert a several weeks ago and I've been a big fan ever since. Several of the songs featured during the event were written by Chris Tomin. Our last song was Amazing Grace.. With Chris's lyrics

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God my Savoir has ransomed me
and like the flood, His mercy reins
Unending love, Amazing Grace

(I got a chance to see him concert do this song..wow)

It was though His grace, that Kevin McCullough donated his time and energy to do the PowerPoint presentation for the worship event. He even brought all the equipment. How proud he was to see his son Kaleb playing bass with us, how proud we all were to have them both there...

Proud eyes looked upon these kids this day..!

Oh and Chuck Potthast.. not only did he sing and play of his own songs but ran the sound for the event. Did I mention he used his own equipment? Chuck has a DVD of his song come to the table, but for some reason he doesn't let anyone see it:) hum.....!

One other thing, Dominic joined us on stage to sing Shout to the Lord. That was neat...to have one of the Grit Rally planners up on stage praising God through song.

so I am thankful for the friendships, commitments and talents of all those involved. My task was to bring the worship team together and have them ready. By the grace of God I was able to do that.. and I need to tell you that I saw 3 or I should say 4 proud dads standing in amazement. Amazed at what God has done and continues to do, Amazed at the blessings that they have received and, Amazed at their children's involvement in the Men of Integrity Rally. If that doesn’t get your life going, then you need to just stay in bed; and of course tune on the radio and listen for the live broadcast 105.1FM

And finally. A great deal of good news happened at this event. Ask Lou Teeper. He'll tell you so...
Thanks, Lou, Steve, and Jeff for your words and insights. We heard you, they heard you and out there on the internet, they heard you as well.

Why would JD Varner continue to host a God centered, Men's Fellowship event in Indiana County? Should he?

God bless all.

Feel free to comment.

The Grit Rally

Here's a question

If you had 2 doors infront of you and you had to choose one in order to continue life, which one would you choose?

Door 1 ---$1000,000 A new Car, A new house, 3 Trips to anywhere in the world, Free college for 3 of your kids, oh and last but not least free food for life at 2 local restaurants

Door 2 --- The secret to life!

Which door would you choose?

Are you busy this coming Saturday?

I know that you probably have a lot to do this weekend, and of course, your schedule is packed. I didn't know that he could read( Just Kidding) anyways.. He pointed out yesterday at the Grit rally Men's worship practice, that Steve twisted a horseshoe to make the Heart and not a poll.

He was right, it was a horseshoe. I brough it into work and showed it to some of the employees and told them about Steve. Most of them tried to bend the horseshoe, and then gave up very quickly. I took some pics of the event and may post them here in a few days.

It would have been cool if Kaleb had left a comment on the blog, like you are suppose to. Well, I hadn't until I attended a Men's retreat on the Campus of Mantowagon in Saxon Pa. I was invited to Lead worship this past weekend by a friend of my named Kevin MCcullough (Faithful Friends out of Homer City). Anyways, Steve was the featured speaker for the weekend. Helping me with worship was a group of new friends Edgar and Eric and Mark. They were awesome to know and as well as outstanding musicians.
Kaleb McCuulough, Kevin's son also played in the worship band. This young man gets better everytime he picks up the bass guitar.

After we finished the worship session on Friday night, Steve took the stage. Af first appearances he looked like a weightlifter, a really big one. First thing you notice is his arms, they were massive. Anyways.. Steve gives all the Glory to God and his presentations were outstanding.

The first session/testimony involved Steve tearing a deck of cards in half with his bear hands. During the hour long session he probably ripped about 15 decks of cars. At the end, he actually put 2 decks together and ripped them apart. Hey you just don't see that every day. Steve told us that he was abit under the weather. Man, if that's under the weather, I couldn't imagine what 100% was like...

This man of God put on 3 more sessions, with each being even more intense. All the while Steve bent, broke, twisted, chewed, and crushed all sorts of things. It was unbelievable!

During Saturday nights session Steve twisted a steel pole into the shape of a heart... And told the audience... that Jesus wants your heart. When I approached the front to finish with worship.. he handed it to me. I will treasure it and what he said always.

During Steve's presentations he talked about "The Prayer of Jabez" and Fisher of Men. It just so happens that I have a great friend of mine who sings and has songs titled Prayer of Jabez and Fishers of Men. His name is Tim Malchak.

I sent both of them emails with hopes that they connect. If you'd like more information you can contact.

This all happened because a friend invited me to spend the weekend with other men for fellowship. What a great time and what a great friend we have in Jesus.

Kevin MCcuullough http://www.faithfulfriendsquartet.com/
Steve McGranahan http://www.stevemcgranahan.com/
Tim Malchak http://www.timmalchak.com/
MarkOrelland FALLIN' FORWARD MINISTRIES http://www.fallforward.info/
Edgar and Eric mailto:hERREVELATION@AOL.COM

It's not about the job, It's about the door.

I don't know when I first heard it, but the saying did stick with me. It was, God closes and opens doors. It's really a faith based way of looking at how we journey down the road of life with God opening and closing doors along the way.

A friend of mine was recently fired from her job and we had conversation about it. I told her, " It's not about the job, but about the door!". God's going to open new doors, just as he closed the one to her last job. So don't waste your time on the fact that that door is closed. Of course you can stand there and complain about it, cry about it, and also blame the people on the other side of the door if you want. But the real challange is to look forward, continue to develop skills, and choose to walk though the next open door.

The same holds true for musicians, I can't tell your how many stories I've heard about how frustrating it is to get ones music on air. Or to play at larger venues... and on and on. Many musicians simply give up or just stop trying.. They become part time players and replace playing with, family, hobbies and other things.

Their instruments get packed away in the closets and attics only for the children and grandchildren to find at some point in the future.

The thing about the job is, you have to have income, and jobs/careers are so tied into our wellbeings that, with a job, you are kind of in limbo. so wipe the sleep out of your eyes, get a goodnights sleep.. and concentrate... cause with faith, you should see the doors off in the distance.

New Stuff

Folks,

It's time to get back to blogging. Back in November I finished writing a song for Hospice and was invited to play the song at their annual November Hospice Event. The song is called Memories Wings. It was released to Hospice in November. According to the agency, they are planning to take the song to a National. How cool would that be?

I put the call out and invited a number of local musicians and singers to help. We begin recording with Sean Moran at Mostuda Productions, Indiana County in early November 2006. Sean Moran engineered an produced 2 of the CD tracks, Sean worked tirelessly with about 27 different artists.

I am very grateful for what Sean Moran has been able to accomplish with our latest effort. During the recording process, Hospice held an in-house event for the formal handing over of the song. It was a nice time, with about 40 people attending. It was nice to see some staff, nurses, and musicians at the event.

I was able to finish the project at Tim Dabbs studio, Hands and Harmony in Johnstown PA. Tim recorded the solo acoustic version and assisted musically by playing guitar and bass. This was my first time recording with Tim Dabbs and I had a great time. He really knows his stuff.
I'm not kidding. He's knows how to get the best sound out of your guitar. I'm so thankful of what he has done. I will be recording with him in the future, no doubt!

So the project is finished and the all the recording and mastering is done.
What an experience! The Bottom-line is, I hope that I hope the songs on this CD help to bring some form of comfort to those experiencing loss. It hurts to lose someone, and I know that you keep that with you for the rest of your life. I am forever grateful for all the hard work and talent that was put into the project Memories Wings.

Thank you all.

Happy Holidays

It's the time of the year with best wishes are spoken more frequently. Our music gets played on a few local stations. Some of the local businesses have been extremely supportive of local music on the radio and live.. Some business hired us on a regular basis and have provided a great venue to play our music and sell CD's. To note our downtown music store has always been supportive of local artists. For that matter so have others as well. Galleries show our images and words, and crafts. We thank you all for that! As for one radio show that shall remain nameless, We have been blessed to have our sponsors that not only support the show, but actually listen to it.

They would have a comment I'm sure. Our shows have featured artists, as far away as Los Angles, Canada, South Carolina and New York.. While staying true to the local stars, professional an amateur. Maybe we should have a National Artists Day? That would be cool.

Or maybe we should build a Artists Peformance Facility to keep local talent here and attract others. It could be a facility that would have a performance part, a teaching part, a store front, a recording part and a meeting facility that could link up with others around the world. It's like thinking out of the box with this one...!! It would be nice, and would cost lots of money to start.. We'll I don't have that much in by account... So for now it's just an thought.

We do have events that showcase artists and musians... But I'm just not talking about the Indiana Fair! I'm talking about something like the Johnstown Folk Festival. Have you been there? It's awesome and free to the public. Talent from all around the county for free.

The bottom line is this... Artists (That's including all creative type hobbies and professionals) work hard at work we do. At times it's like have another full time job. With practice, learning songs, working with other musicians, setting up this and that, management stuff, time away from family (for some of us) and all the stuff that goes into creating the right background sounds and or paintings, or an opening act.

Indiana County is rich with creative artists. I'm proud to be one and to give voice to others.
So with all that, Does this add up to Indiana County caring about it's artists?

I was invited and attended the annual Chamber business Luncheon last week. The place was packed and there was a lot of energy in the air about Indiana County. I wondered, how many of these folks are Artists? Some I'm sure are closeted! But how many, sing, write, draw, dance, play an instrument ect. It was just a thought, cause Artists are part of the foundation for great cities and towns..(New Orleans) comes to mind.

If you read this blogg, you'll see that I recently went to IUP and listened to the symphony. I must admit, I don't usually go. But I did and enjoyed it. I enjoyed the talent, the energy and the fact that it was happening here in Indiana County.

Tell us what you think.

IUP Symphony Orchestra

Last night (December 6, 2006 Gorell Recital Hall) I took the opportunity to go and see the IUP Symphony. I can't recall the last time that I had done that, but it had been quite a while.
That night, Dr.Stanley Chepaitis, directed the Symphony as they presented "The All Hayda Symphony Program. They even featured commentary and Insights from Dr. Matthew Baumer.

Needless to say, It was a wonderful event. I enjoy stringed instruments, and the Orchestra sounded splendid. Dr. Chepaitis did an outstanding job directing the symphony. I guess they don't use the little wand thingy anymore.

Coming from someone who just loves music and story, I was able to follow along with the various movements. (That's what they call the sections)

Dr. Matthew's Baumer's comments put the audience right back in the time the pieces were written. I had never heard anyone do that before or during a concert. It added cool layers.

Listening to the Orchestra, I got to thinking about all the movies, cartoons, TV programs, and plays that I have experienced growing up. They have all featured symphony music in one way or another. Therein, is the rub.. That's why it's so familiar. At least the music is.

I know that alot of hard work and talent goes into putting on events like this one. Even the student playing the triangle played a key role.

Amazing.

Great job all around folks. Thanks for a wonderful musical evening.

If you've thought about going to see the Symphony or want more information, you can go to here.

Waterman

I had the honor of working with Tim Dabbs recently on a brand new music video. Robin Hastings was the Guest Host on the Acoustic Hour Radio show. .... and he invited his buddy Ken Hiram, Jeff Kelley from clymer PA contact number 724-254-7000, Dave and John Minda http://www.daveminda.com/, and Mike miller, Jimmy Roach, Joe Roach of the group Four Day Crawl, http://www.fourdaycrawl.com. I would suggest that you download it first then listen to it.(To download the file, 1. Put your mouse over the link, 2. Right click and choose save target as, 3. pick a location and or folder, 4. click Save.)

This was the first group type Blues show. All of the music on the show was live, except bumper tracks from Jeff Kelley's cd. We would like to do it again and have it be even bigger and better. Pattie suggested that we invited "women Blues Artists" I'm up for that, and do hope that we can tap into that talent pool. Thanks to Greg Bender at the Music Box for his sponsorship of the show, along with the Homemade Restaurant.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Well such was the cast on Sunday (10-22-06) Robert Gordon III, Hedi Maxwell, and Lance Wolfe, stopped by and gave the listeners a real treat. Robert Gordon is a violin maker. He really does it all, (sell, teach, consult, et al, That's right, He can turn a tree into a violin. It's part of the family tradition. I actually got a chance to meet his father at Robert's downtown studio. Not only is it a very interesting profession, but those little buggers don't come cheep. If you've ever had the chance to look really close at one, you'd know that some serious craftsmanship’s is built right in. Robert's coming back on the show when Carl Rahkonen visits. He was a great guest and when he comes back, we all will learn more about the wonderful violin.

Hedi Maxwell, currently lives in North Carolina, she grew up in Homer City. She's a singer songwriter with a new song, Home to Pennsylvania. I love'd her songs. I can tell that she not only loves music, but really enjoys playing. I hope when she comes home, that she'll come back on the show.

Lance is always a great guest. This young man is so talented. I appreciate him sharing the story about his braces, though parts were hard to take. I've always loved wind instruments, and Lance make it look easier..

What a show! Local folks sharing what they know. I hope you had a chance to listen. If not, the show will be posted on the acoustic hour website for the entire world to hear.

IAN MURPHY

Folks,

Here's a link to a cool kid, awesome musican and friend and Christian brother. The day started out cloudy and rainy. It was also a bit cold. I was wondering if the event was even going to go on as scheduled. Well, I packed up my gear and headed down to Blacklick. When I finally found the park, which is not hard to find, I was greeted by very friendly people. They even gave me my own parking area right next to the food and entertainment area. That's cool with me, I really hate lugging PA equipotent long distances.

It had been a few years since I played in Blacklick. I had a wonderful time then, and I was really looking forward to playing again. Anyways, it got a bit but the show had to go on. Despite the weather, the folks of Blacklick came out. It was nice crowd. There were 50/50 drawings and prizes and lots of Food. And folks it was all free. That's right. It was free. You can't beat that.
My shows are interactive.. I love getting the audience involved. It was cool that some of the request made, I knew the songs... My rule is, I'll play the request..if I know it, if I don't they have to sing. I know that's risky,,but it's fun. We even had one of our representing sing " Brown Eyed Girl" with me..

Later in the afternoon, a couple of buddies of mine Alex and Kaleb kept the music playing. All in all, a great day and wouldn't you know it... the sun started to shine as the event came to a close.

Hat's off to all the Staffmembers and residents of Blacklick for planning, organizing and holding this event. I had been invited to attend his play, Othello, which I saw earlier in the summer in Pittsburgh.

I believe the most non-theatre going people have no idea how much time, effort and talents goes into producing and or directing shows. Theres' sponorship, planning, set design, crew, locations, utilities, actors, a script, practice, et al.... ! Just thinking of all of that can make one dizzy. But we don't have to think about that. All we have to do is support the arts!! Either through sponsorship, word of mouth, and most importantly... Go and see the show!

I'm not much of a theatre go-er, but I can tell you that I had a wonderful time watching(experiencing) the play. You are right there (up close and personal) and in some ways almost part of the play. A funny thing happened after the show, that I'd like to share.. I was standing in the parking lot in the back of the building and then the actors came out. Yep, they were right there..They looked like reqular people..lol... One minute they are characters in a powerful play and the next minute, they are hanging out in the parking lot chit-chatting! They seemed bigger than life on stage, and mere mortals afterwards...WOW!

I could feel the passion, and energy of the actors. And though I'm not versed in Shakespeare, I was able to follow what was going on ..

If you've always wanted to check a play out, check out IUP's offerings. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.

Now back to the Acoustic Hour show, Dave Scerene helped with the interview. He's a great guitar player and loves the theatre as well. I got the chance to talk with Micheal and really get to know the (behind the scenes) stuff that goes into producing and/or directing plays. I found his information to be interesting. For example in some cases it can take a couple of years before the audience sees a curtian call. (Talk about Planning) But the bottomline is, theres's a story to tell that is generally almost always applicable to what's happening currently.

But I didn't ask him the most asked question regarding Theatre; and that is, "How do they remember all thouse lines?" Don't give me that training and concentration stuff! There has to be more to it than that? My thought is that they(actors) have a special memory chip implanted in their heads which allows them to remember bunches and bunches of lines. I guess, I'll never really ever know the true answer. Oh well!

If you listened to the show last Sunday, and would like to make a comment, feel free to do so..

Keep up the great work Mr. Hood.

Kamal Youssef

The Misson of the show, is the give voice to local and regional artists and musicians. For me, it was a weekend of first. First I backed up Tim Dabbs on Drums on Friday evening. We had a nice show. He' really loved the "Ken doll" gift. The rain didn't keep the people away. We had a nice crowd and just like last year, it was a privilage to play great music for the Johnstown crowd. Oh and another cool thing was that we were able to get homecooked meals. It was part of the package for entertainers. I also got the chance to meet some new cool artists and musicians, many of which I invited to come on the show.

On Saturday, I played at the Cambria Community Center in Westmont for 3 hours. I invited my buddy Alex (young folk singer) to come along. Doug of (Crosswinds) even showed up and played a tune.
I had a wonderful time in Westmont. Again, the rain didn't stop people from coming out...
Then on Sunday I played at the Ethnic Festival in Johnstown. This was cool as well, but I have to say that when I arrived back to Johnstown, I didn't have my guitars. I had left them back at home. Don't you just hate that? Anways... the audience seemed to enjoy the music and I gave away a few CDs. I want to thank Tim for allowing me to use his guitar. Then back to Folkfest for some more music and food. Ryan(Tim Dabbs Son) and Mitch( Tim's nephew) also stopped by the CMT Van and got our pictures taken. All and all a great weekend, of Fun, Friends, Music and Food...

One last thing and probably most importantly.. I got back to Indiana in time to see "Team Preadtor" This was the film shown at the Indiana Theatre this weekend. I had heard about it but this was my first time seeing it. During my shows, I often say a few words of praise and sing a few songs to say thanks to our troops.
It was powerful and raw. I couldn't help seeing out young the solders looked. It really gave you in close up and real picture of what these brave solders deal with everyday. Pastor Randal Mccaully spoke afterwards and sang a tribute song for all veterans. It was tough to watch....but that's nothing compared to living it. Thanks to JD Varner for getting it to the big screen in Indiana County. I do hope that Shawn(the films producer) continues to let the world see this film.

I'm getting ready

I'm listening to Leslie Bowe's new CD gipsy.. I believe 5 acts performed and even the weather cooperated. Hat's off to Kraig Hamilton and his team at the IUP radio station for putting on the event. I hope that they put it on again.

Now,I'm getting ready for Johnstown... yep.. It's the FolkFest, and I'll be drumming for Tim Dabbs Friday evening at 5:30. Saturday I'll be performing at Westmont Community LogCabin Festival and on Sunday, I'll be performing on Broad Ave, in Cambria City. I'm sure that that is someplace in Johnstown.

So it looks like a busy weekend. I'd better put some new strings on the guitars and get plenty of rest. If you know anything about me, you know that baseball is not on my top 100000 things to do. Anyways, I accepted the invitation with a very good friend of mine.
Oh and let me say that this post has very little to do with The Acoustic Hour Radio Show.... or maybe it does? Read on and find out..
I had seen the park before, but there is something eyecatching about ballparks, at night. the lights, sounds, and upon approaching, the food smells and the vehicle and people sounds.

Right of the back, I noticed the pace of which people where walking to the game, they didn't seem to be in a hurry, and the game had started, hum...We were greeted at the gate and walked to our seats, people all around where taking their time, talking , watching the game, eating, and just having what looked liked a good time. We didn't even have to wait in line for food..

I noticed how wide open things where..I wondered if that was by design or not, anyways we had no trouble finding our seats, which by the way, was competely around the other end of the park. It didn'take us long to get seated, however..I'm a big guy and I wound up sitting right next to another big guy, who had got us all the tickets. Let's say that he's a big baseball fan, and the kind of person you'd want to be sitting next to if you had a baseball question. He did have a weird sense of humor. Anyways.. the view from where we were sitting was stunning. I could see the lights against the sky, the vaery large viewing boards (that by the way, are all part of the organized entertainment that goes on through the game. I could see the roller coasterg going next door at Lakemont Park and the wonder skyline..

It was a beautiful Midweek evening and the tempature was perfect.
I watched the game along with the (silly human tricks) and contest, with delight. it was clear that the focus on this was much more than baseball.
We chatted and decided to move downstairs to continue watching the game.
This is when things really go fun for me.. You can actually go down to groundlevel and watch the game.. it's was so cool. We sat at these tables with all the room in the world.

It was at the point that I really started watching and paying attention to the game. Unfortunate the home team was loosing. and the thing that struck me was, "How the players where behaving" I mean, when there was a hit, double, the players kicked it into gear, ran faster, threw and threw harder. And when there was a bad play, I didn't see, attitude, or hear yelling at the ref, or throwing bats, turning over stuff, or simple acting badly... I didn't see any of that!

The pace of the game was fast and organized. The players didn't mess around at all. Everyone's seemed organized and timed. Between, the announcers chatter, the music, the events on the field and the game itself, it was like a symphony.

I looked at the faces of the people working there. They were kids, teens, youn adults, adults, older adults and senior citizens. All looking professional and happy. It' was like and ant farm... Everybody had their area, or job to do... and they did it in quietly.

Needless to say, I was having a wonderful time, and it had little to do with baseball. But I must say to the organizers, promoters, owners of The Park and Team... Way to go.. For me, it was a nice time to spend with friends away from the daily routine. Oh and one thing, this 6 year old girl played the "guess which hat the ball is under" You have to watch this on the big screen, and then very one yells out wich hat the ball is under..3 hat's one ball. Anyways..it was under hat one. Everyone yelled out hat one. The little gril picked hat 2. But they gave her the prize anyway... I don't think she should have won the prize. lol she guessed wrong.

But the important point here is that "They included kids in almost every phase of the event. If you have kids, take them to the park., If you don't have kids, borrow your cousin's and take them..lol..

I can barely remember the last time, I was in a ball park watching a baseball game..But I can tell you that it will be long time before I forget last evenings experience.

So there I was, at baseball game, watching, listening and enjoying... and when you heard the crack of the bat, you knew what was happening... and so did eveyone in the park, well almost everyone, except for the kids playing in the play areas,.... you watched the little white ball with the backdrop of the beautiful evening sky and for a moment again, you're a kid again!

Acoustic Hour Folk Fest Preview

It's been a year since we did the last FolkFest show. The Group "Tree" was this Sunday's guests on the Acoustic Hour Radio Show ( 8-6-06)Jordan Long, one of the musicians actually performed several numbers involving Irish step dance. That had never been done before on the Acoustic Hour. JD (owner of WMUG radio) stopped in, and was amazed as well. We even caught her dance on Video.

One of the neat things that happed on the show was, I saw Matt, he's the lead singer/musician get up and go over to the window during the show. I was thinking, what is he doing? Well, his folks were riding in the car listening to the show outside the window. He was trying to get their attention but couldn't. This went on for a few minutes, and when I found out what was going on, I told them on air to look to the left!!! How cool is that folks.

Tree has formed about4 years ago. They have produced their own CD at home. Taking traditional Folk tunes and turning them into foot stomping arrangements. They were great guests to have on the show. I'm so looking forward to it, and I got this referral from Ron Nocco. Then I'm off to WMUG to do be interviewed by Kevin for his show. I became a fan of his shortly after the release of The Gathering Field's Lost In America CD. I had purchased it back then and had since lost it, so I thought.

The other day while shuffling through some old CD boxes, I found it.. It was brand new again.. I put in in my Car CD player there is was ...Ray Defade on drums Dave Brown on electric guitar Jim Dispirito on tambourine, Eric Riebling on bass and Bill Deasy singing Lost In America. You know the feeling when you play a great tune, and then hear it again after a very long period of time, ..oh you know the feeling!

Alot has happened since becoming a Bill Deasy/Gathering Field Fan,. I met and became friends with Chuck Olson who is also an oustanding singer and lover of music and art. He's lives in Indiana with his family and teaches Art at St. Francis University. He facilitates tthe Cafe' Voltare. It's a coffee house type event when local and regional artists can perform on stage live for the students. This is when I got my first opportunity to open for Bill Deasy.

I took my buddy Barry Little (Brian Miller and Tanoma Road lead guitarist) with me and we had an awesome time. I had the please of having Bill on the Acoustic Hour Radio show(via Phone) He was a cool guest and an an even cooler person to finally meet.
During my shows, I perform Bill Deasy tunes. The audience responses to "Dyland Thomas Day's has always been cool. I recently performed at the MAATI (Mid Atlantic Addiction Training Inistute)luncheon at IUP and that song was so appropriate. "My Dyland Thomas Days are finally over"! Maybe they should adopt that song...humm!

Anyway, Bill Deasy has a long musical history with Indiana Country and this region. He's a regular at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh and has a very active following according to his website message board.

I've always believed that this region has some of the best talent in the Country. Bill Deasy is an example of that and I'm glad that I found my lost CD.
"Smoke on the railroad track, Dogs in the Moonlight..I have to get back to my new old CD........." Keep the music playing Bill. Tune in to the Acostic Hour Radio show and you'll hear Bill music. Make it a point to check him out when he's in concert.

Thanks for listening!

The Polka Beat

Who would have ever thought that the long running Polka Beat (Nick Kanyan) would have anything to do with the Acoustic Hour being on the air. Well, thanks to Ron Nocco, and the go-a-head from Mark Bertig, The Acoustic Hour Radio show got the hour spot because the Polka Beat was cutting back from 3 Hours to 2.

It was at that point that I started really listening to The Polka Beat and really got to know a very nice and professional radio DJ Nick Kaynan. He is a veteran of radio and has hosted the Polka Beat for over 18 years. Nick is an accomplished musician and professional DJ. He really loves what he is doing and it's has been great working with him. He has always treated me as well as the countless guests that visited the station for my show. It would be nice if Nick is reconginzed for his work. Whether or not you like Polka, tune in and check it out Sunday Mornings from 10-12am. Thanks Nick and keep up the great work.

Resurrection Christian Store Grand Opening

I had the wonderful opportunity to check out the Grand Opening of the Resurrection Christian Store at the South 6th Street Ext. It was another really humid and hot day in Indiana County. I must say at the start that the Resurrection Christian Store air conditioning was working perfectly. I and other people took the time to cool off and browse around the new store.

This was the Plaza's first event to get the word out about new businesses on that end of town. It's easy to get to... just a few miles past the Indiana Regional Hospital.

There was live music from 11:00-8:00pm and a live broadcast remote from WDAD and WMUG radio, respectfully. I got a chance to check out the musicians, of which some traveled far distances to participate. Crosswinds was the first group I caught and they sounded excellent. They recently appeared on the Acoustic Hour Radio show and the WMUG 4th of July showcase. I then got a chance to listen to Pastor Ed Billock and his group.

They had a great sound also. But there was something that happened afterwards that to me spoke volumes. After the Pastor finished, Soul Patch was performing and the lead singer broke a string. He didn't have an extra one, or another guitar (dont' you just hate that) anyways, the Pastor saw what happed and allowed Soul Patch to use his guitar. While the show continued, Paster Ed changed strings on that guitar and had it tuned and ready after the next song.

So what you may say? Think about it... that was an awesome act of kindness.

Soul Patch was good as well. They had a Dave Mathews -- John Mayer Style..

The last group was "August". I heard that they traveled from Ohio to be a part of the Event. That's awesome. Think about it .. A group of young guys traveled all that way to play Christian music... They had a nice sound as well.

I got a chance to see some old friends and met some new ones.

On they were also offering "Free Car Washing" Of course I took them up on it. The kids at Grace Church really worked hard.

Eventhough it was " Hot" out, I had a nice time. The sound was handled by Doug Varner sound and all was well.

I'm gald that I took the time to stop by today. There was great conversations, awesome new talent and music, cool water and a few new business that Indiana and the surrounding communities should embrace.

I took a few pictures of the event and posted on my site. If you'd like to see them click here.

You may have seen the signs on the road and was too busy to stop by.

You may have been planning on going but something came up... or didn't even know that this event even happened. Check out the pictures and know that alot of hard work, scheduling, driving, planning, organizing, sacrificing, worring and of course praying played key parts in this event.

I very much appreciate the team's efforts and do hope that they continue to make Indiana County and visitors a better place to live, work, worship and visit.

We Are Country - A tribute song for our service personell

I took a look up in the sky
I saw the terror of that black smoke, <img style="FLOAT: right; If you tuned in, you would've heard live, guests from LA, California. That's right, They called in to the Acoustic Hour Radio show. It all started with Chuck Madien. He's been a guest on the show several times. Check out his site to find out more about him. The he referred folks to us, ... Julie Gribble, Witts End, Bill Reveles, Nathaniel Street-West (He's coming on the show in August.

We are going to continue to feature these outstanding artists from the left cosast. Let me say a word about their agents..They have been great! Most of the communication has been through email and when I do talk to them on the phone, they are professional, energetic and funny.

From the feedback, that I have gotten from our listeners, they really enjoy the LA segments.
I hear, that they would like to take a road trip to play live on this end of the Country. Maybe that will happen. In the meantime, take a minute to check out their respective websites. Feel free to comment on them here on the Acoustic Hour Blog.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Band should have gotten chance to perform full set

I have had the professional pleasure of working with one of this region’s premier country bands. They began as the Country Knights and have evolved into Brian Miller and Tanoma Road.
Collectively, these professionals have given this region countless shows, charity and/or fundraising benefits. They’ve opened for national recording artists and musicians during previous FOP concerts in Indiana County and in major venues throughout western Pennsylvania. The Brian Miller Band no doubt has its roots in Western Pennsylvania. All the members live here and in some cases raise their families here as well. ...

This brings me to my point. I got the chance to check out this year’s edition of the FOP concert at Mack Park on Sunday. Brian Miller and Tanoma Road were on the bill.
By the time I got settled in my seat, they were on the last song. They only played about four songs. What’s up with that?

Brian Miller and Tanoma Road should have been given the opportunity to play at least one set. That’s what openers usually do. In previous years they had been granted as much. To give them less shows a lack of respect! The band also didn’t get the chance to play their new tribute-to-the-troops song, "We are Country," at either of the two shows.

As a promoter of local and regional music in this area, I would encourage the organizers to take this into consideration the next time local and/or regional talent is invited to open for "big events."

Anthony Frazier

Here's the actual letter that appeared in the Indiana Gazette Newspaper

Sponsors, Sponsorship

The Acoustic Hour Radio Show values its sponsors.
